Book Making

Introduction

Make your own book about manners.

Materials:

  • Lined Paper
  • White Paper
  • Stapler
  • Crayons
  • Markers
  • Pen or Pencil
  • Glue (optional)
  • Glitter (optional)

Directions:

  • Take some of your lined paper (3-8 pages, depending on how long of a story you and your child want to make) Take one sheet of white paper and place it on top of the lined paper.
  • Using the stapler, staple the left hand side of the paper starting and the top of the page and work your way to the bottom of the page. You will end up with your paper now resembling a book.
  • Talk to your child about manners and write some ideas down of what manners mean to you and your child. For example: I use my manners when I say please and thank you.
  • Now have your child write her story by starting on the first page of the lined paper. If your child is younger you can have your child tell you what he wants you to write and you can draw dotted letters that he can trace.
  • When your child has completed his book, have him go to the cover (the white paper) and write a title for his book. If he wants to, he can also draw a picture to go on the cover.
  • (Optional) Have your child decorate the cover by using the glue and glitter.

Take it further:

Make A Book To Give as a Gift
  • Using the same format as above, have your child create a book to give as a present.
  • Instead of using lined paper for this book, he could use white paper and then draw pictures to go along with his story.

Talk about it:

  • Why is it important to use manners? Talk to your child about the importance of manners.
