A Suprise Party

Introduction

Make a surprise party for a friend or family member.

Materials:

  • Multi-colored construction paper
  • Lined Paper
  • Crayons
  • Markers
  • Permanent Marker
  • Pencils
  • Balloons
  • Scissors(*adults only)

Directions:

  • Alphabet Ring Streamers: To make alphabet rings you will need to use the multi-colored construction paper. Adults only, cut the construction paper lengthwise into 4 strips. Depending on how big you want the streamers, you will need to cut more or less strips.
  • Have your child write her name on one of the strips. Have your child write the names of guests or family members. You can also have your child write letters on the strips. If you are making a longer streamer you could have your child write the entire alphabet with one letter on per strip.
  • To make the streamers, take one of the strips and connect the ends so that the strips form a circle. Place a piece of tape to hold the circle to make the ring. Take another strip and place it through your completed ring. Take the two ends of the strip and connect them using another piece of tape. You should now have two interlocking rings. Continue making the Alphabet Ring Streamers by adding strips and connecting them with tape until it is the length you want.
  • When you and your child are done decorating, invite your family or friends into the room and make sure to say, SURPRISE!

Take it further:

Surprise Alphabet Balloons:
  • After you have filled them with air, have your child write the letters s-u-r-p-r-i-s-e, one letter on each balloon by using the permanent marker.
  • Take eight balloons and fill them with air. You can simply blow them up yourself or if you want to fill them with helium so the balloons with float. If not, you can leave them on the floor scattered around the party room.
  • For a challenge, you can have your child arrange on the floor, or by attaching the balloons to strings so the letters are in the right order and the balloons spell the word surprise.
  • You can also have her write the name of the person she wants to surprise or write the names of guests on each balloon.

Surprise Party Dance:
  • Have your child make up a song for the surprise party. The song can be made to the tune of your childs choice.
  • Have your child write the words to the song on the lined paper. If she is younger, you can draw the words by making dotted letters and have her trace the letters.
  • After she has written the song, have her make up a dance that goes along with the song.
  • When your childs guests arrive, she can teach the song and dance to her friends or family members.

Talk about it:

  • What is your childs favorite thing to wear? Does she have a favorite shirt or dress? Talk to your child about her favorite clothes and what makes them so special.
