Mixed Up, Dress Up

Introduction

Have your child play a fun game of dress up while learning to spell.

Materials:

Directions:

  • Have an adult cut out the Super Readers on sheet #1 and the clothing cut-outs on sheet #2 and sheet #3.
  • Have your child label what each item is. For example, on the shirt, have your child write the word, shirt. If your child is younger, draw dotted letters so your child can trace the letters.
  • Now have your child mix and match the outfits on all four of the Super Readers.

Take it further:

Draw your own clothes:
  • Have your child start from scratch and draw a character. Have him draw clothes and other items like hats and shoes for his character. Ask your child to label what he is drawing.

Make silly items for the Super Readers:
  • Have your child write the following words and then draw each item. Have an adult cut the items out for your child to mix and match with the each Super Reader:
    • apple
    • ball
    • banana
    • kite
    • moon

Dress your own superhero:
  • With your child, go to Princess Presto's Create Your Own Superhero game on the SUPER WHY site. Have your child create his own superhero. Have your child follow the steps to make a superhero and then have an adult cut out the final hero. Then, have your child use the outfits to dress his super hero by putting the Super Reader outfits on his super hero. Have your child make his own outfits to dress his hero too!

Talk about it:

  • What is your childs favorite thing to wear? Does he have a favorite shirt or dress? Talk to your child about his favorite clothes and what makes them so special.
