Draw Your Super Self

Introduction

Trace your child and then decorate it the drawing!

Materials:

  • Oversized paper (If you dont have oversized paper, you can tape multiple sheets of smaller paper together. Make sure the tape side is facing down.)
  • Pencil
  • Crayons
  • Markers

Directions:

  • Measure a piece of paper that is a few inches taller than your child.
  • Have your child lay on the piece of paper.
  • Using a pencil trace the outline of your childs body. This is also a fun thing for a friend or sibling to do. Then they can take turns outlining each other.
  • Your child can color in her outfit, draw hat or make a silly face on her outline.
  • Have your child write her name on the top of the paper.
  • Ask your child is she is small or tall. Have write her response by writing the word small or tall next to her outline. If your child is younger, you can write the word for her or draw dotted letters that they can trace.

Take it further:

Drawing small and tall:
  • Have your child trace other objects next to her outline. Find things around the house that she can trace like a spoon, a book or even her own shoe. Have your child trace the objects and then ask your child if she thinks the item is smaller or taller than her. Have your child label the items. For example, Is the spoon smaller or taller than you? If your child says small, write the word small next to the spoon. For older children, and a greater challenge, have your child write the word herself. If your child is younger, you can draw dotted letters and have her trace them.

Talk about it:

  • If your child thinks she is small, ask her why. Does she think she will be tall someday? What does it mean to be small or tall? Talk about it with your child.
