Educator-Led Family Activities: Wet Sky, Wet City

In “Wet Sky, Wet City,” families explore how to predict when it will rain and what happens when rain and snow fall on city surfaces. These activities include a PLUM LANDING animation and a related hands-on activity, both with extension ideas, providing about one hour of programming.

Start by having families watch Where Does All the Snow Go?, a short video about how and why cities and towns remove excess snow. (Gather around a laptop or tablet, or arrange to view the video on a larger screen.) Then, head outdoors to look for signs of changing weather with the hands-on activity Rain Detective. If time permits, wrap up your day by completing one or more of the “Explore Some More” activities.
