Afterschool Activities: Mission: Seed Spot
In “Mission: Seed Spot,” kids explore how plants spread their seeds to give their offspring the space and resources to grow. These activities include a PLUM LANDING animation and a related hands-on activity, both with extension ideas, to provide about one hour of programming.
Start by having kids watch Plant Your Socks!, a short animated video about wearing fuzzy socks outdoors to collect seeds on the ground. Then, head outdoors for Seed Travels, a hands-on activity in which kids go on a scavenger hunt to find different kinds of plants and seeds. If time permits, wrap up your day by completing one or more of the “Explore Some More” activities or play the Seed Racer game to explore different ways seeds are dispersed.
