Helpful Tips

We welcome and appreciate your feedback for the PBS KIDS Super Vision app. Here are a few tips to improve your experience with the app:

Connecting & Disconnecting

Do I lose all of my child's activity when I disconnect?
Yes, if you disconnect the app from the website, you will lose the current information on website session. The code is a one-time identifier for the device. You cannot re-use this code to get the information back.
Can I reconnect with the same code?
The connect code can only be used once. If you attempt to connect the app to the same code, the app will not work.
Can I reconnect my app to pbskids.org?
Yes, by following the HOW TO CONNECT steps at the top of this FAQ, you will be able to reconnect. You will be starting a new session, so none of your previous activity information will be available.
Will my connection get lost if I lose access to wifi or the network?
No. You only lose connection when you hit the DISCONNECT button on the app or on the web browser.
Does this app connect to other PBS KIDS mobile apps?
No. Currently, the PBS KIDS Super Vision app only connects to pbskids.org. We are, however, planning to have this app connect to other PBS KIDS apps (specifically the PBS KIDS Video iOS app) in the future. Please stay tuned for updates or sign up for our newsletter to receive the latest information about PBS KIDS launches and updates.
Can the app control and view multiple devices and computers?
No. Currently the app can only control and receive data from one computer at a time. We hope to offer the option to connect to multiple devices in the near future. Please email us at supervisionapp@pbs.org if you would like this feature.
Can I use the same connect code for multiple devices?
Since the app can only control one pbskids.org session at a time, you cannot use the same code for multiple devices. One code can only be used once, and for one device. If you disconnect from the app or the website, you can go to pbskids.org to receive a new code
Can the app differentiate between multiple children?
Since the app only uses one code, it cannot differentiate between multiple children who may access pbskids.org from the same device. However, we hope to offer this functionality in the future.

Super Vision App Features

Can this app only track the videos and games my child watched and played?
Yes, currently the PBS KIDS Super Vision app tracks the videos your child watches and the games your child plays on pbskids.org. The app also tells you what skills and educational concepts your child encounters in these activities. The app will also suggest tips and activity ideas for you to extend that learning later.
How do I use the Play Timer?
The Play Timer is a feature that allows you to remotely put the website to "sleep." You can stop your child's play on the website immediately, or set a specific time for the site to shut down. The app offers several customized options for shutting down play that can help you and your family ease the transition from computer time to the next family activity. For example, depending on your Play Timer settings, the site will alert your child that it's time for a meal, time for school, time for bed, or just time to stop playing online. The Play Timer only shuts down the pbskids.org website, not any other websites.
My child cannot access the pbskids.org site after I set the timer. How do I disable it?
You can disable the Play Timer from your phone. Go to PLAY TIMER, and click on WAKE UP. You may also just refresh the browser and URL - the Play Timer will no longer be active.
What is the "Activity Summary?"
It is a summary of your child's video and game activity on pbskids.org in the last week (or since you first connected the app, if that was less than a week ago). Specifically, the summary will provide information about:
  • Your child's favorite show
  • Your child's most-watched video
  • The most-played game
  • The top educational skills your child learned

Based on this summary, the PBS KIDS Super Vision app will also recommend to you which other PBS KIDS shows your child might enjoy, and suggest at-home activities you might play together that may meet your child's interests. Please note that the Activity Summary only tracks seven days' worth of your child's activity on pbskids.org.

Are there any other PBS KIDS parent apps?
You can view all PBS KIDS apps with the MORE APPS button. You can also view a list of all PBS KIDS apps, albums, e-books, and more by going to pbskids.org/apps. Another PBS Parents app available is the PBS Parent Play & Learn app.
Where can I find more information about PBS KIDS shows, including the age ranges and educational goals for each?
Each activity listed within the PBS KIDS Super Vision app should include an "i" icon. Click on the "i" icon to see more specific information about each PBS KIDS series, including the target age range, description, educational focus, and website URL.
